In Defense of OK State

Alabama tells us they should have lost to LSU on November 5 and that's why they deserve to play in the BCS title game!!!

I cheer for OU and OSU because I'm an Oklahoman. I didn't attend either school and, normally, it's not too terribly important for me to see one beat the other. But, I'm glad to see OSU win. It was nice to see them play so well, too.

Of course, the OSU victory means that the state of Oklahoma will have an intense and vested interest in the BCS title game. We're not unfamiliar with this discussion. Who should play in the game? Who deserves it? Should you have to win your conference to have access to the title game? And so on. I'm sick of the BCS discussion, not just the BCS but the AP and Coaches polls as well. I can't stand any of them. The selection process by which colleges football teams play for a national title is entirely too subjective and until a fair system is in place, I guess those of us who love college football will have to deal with it all.

Alabama's argument for BCS title game inclusion is "Yeah, we lost. But it was a lose to the number one team in the nation. OSU lost to an unranked team." To which OSU responds, "We lost on the road, Alabama lost at home, and look at our wins, by the way."

Here's what I think is stupid about Alabama's argument for BCS title game inclusion:

Alabama is saying OSU should have beaten Iowa State--an unranked team with a long history of football futility. Meanwhile, They [Alabama] lost to the number one team, LSU. When they say, "Yeah, we lost. But it was a lost to the number one team." They're basically saying, "We were supposed to lose, but Oklahoma State was supposed to win."

OSU is saying, "That game we lost, we should have won it. You're right to think it ludicrous that we lost." Meanwhile, the other team is saying, "That game we lost, it was to the number one team. We should have lost it."

So, do you want the team that should have lost to LSU or the team that should have beaten Iowa State to play in the BCS title game?

I suppose you could accuse me of regional bias in my argument, and absolutely I want an Oklahoma-based school in the title game. But, more than that, I just hate ignorant, lame politicking. And, of the two schools, Alabama has the most lame campaign argument.
