One year anniversaries are special; we're approaching the one year anniversary of when we first brought home the Queen Bee. This time last year, I was in Vienna by myself. Gretchen was in the U.S. getting some documents for the adoption and she took Sharkdog with her. It was just supposed to be a quick trip, but then she got sick and was gone a couple of weeks.

One year anniversaries are special because you can think back to one year ago and you're life was different. This time next year, I won't be thinking about Thanksgiving 2010 because it will be a lot like Thanksgiving 2011. It will be a Thanksgiving with a daughter. It will be a Thanksgiving in the States. That is not to insinuate that this will be a mundane experience for me, but simply to point out that one year anniversaries are special because they not only represent the passage of time, but a change in life situation.

My sister commented recently that it's hard to believe it's been a year since the Queen Bee came to live with us. But, it's not hard to believe because time has moved so quickly. It is hard to believe because it seems like she has always been here. The time when she wasn't doesn't seem real to me.

The one year anniversary gets too little respect. The 10, 25, 50 year anniversary gets all the press. But, it's hard not to be impressed with 25 and 50 year anniversaries, I must admit. One year is pretty significant, though. It is pretty special.
