It sounds like the Big 12 is dissolving. That's too bad because I've really enjoyed the Big 12. If the rumors are true, most of the Big 12 south with become the Pac 10 east. I'll miss having Kansas in the same division as the Oklahoma schools. I've always thought Lawrence to be a really neat town and KU a nice school. I even looked at the possibility of moving there and enrolling, but it wasn't the right time. I'm not a huge basketball fan, but I'm interested to see where Kansas ends up because of the basketball program. I was a fan of Mark Mangino before he turned out to be a jerk. During his tenure at KU, I really paid attention to their football program and was excited for there success the last couple of years (not so much last year). In Oklahoma, all sports are subservient to football, so that's where all the interest lays. I thought that it would be a good time to list my top five football teams, what with all this football talk going on. But, I don't really have favorite college teams. I like OU and OSU and I dislike Texas and Texas A&M. Other than that, I kind of cheer for everyone. So this list is my top 5 NFL teams.

5. Denver Broncos--I actually have a hard time choosing five teams. Four teams are easy to choose, but after that I don't know. I also like the Titans. But, in honor of my good friend Jake, I'm going to place the Broncos here. Besides, the team owner is an old OU man. I'm also fan of Tim Tebow and look forward to watching him play in the NFL (I must admit that he his tremendously overexposed, though). Denver otherwise has a decent history of signing OU and OSU players (Quinten Griffin, Tatum Bell, Darrant Wiliams) and that makes them alright in my book.

4. Cleveland Browns--This is a new team for me. I like Mike Holmgren as a football man and as a person, so I like to see him succeed. Also, I like Colt McCoy, even though he play college ball for the Texas Satans, and I'm anxious to see how he meets the challenge of NFL football. I also really like the way Cleveland can (when they want to) rally around this team. I like the way the town supports the Browns.

3. Green Bay Packers--I like the Packers because they're an old team. I like those old teams, like the Bears, Packers, and Lions. I like the team in Green Bay, I like their history. I like that, as is the case with the Steelers, they're named after an industry. I find that intriguing. I'm not sure if was in support of the workers or what, but I like the name Packers.

2. San Francisco 49ers--When I was in first grade I really didn't watch football. I remember my dad watching it everyone Sunday and rooting for the bears. I remember Jim McMahon in those Miracle Whip commercials and the Super Bowl shuffle. For Christmas that year, my grandpa gave me a 49ers sweatshirt and from that point I was a 49er fan. I suppose I would have become a fan of whatever team was on a that sweatshirt, it just so happened to be the 49ers, but they had my unwavering devotion until they fired Steve Mariucci in the late 90s. The whole situation was so icky feeling that I actually didn't like the team at all until Mike Singletary become the head coach. But I find myself once again cheering for San Francicso.

1. Baltimore Ravens--My allegiance slowly shifted to the Ravens over the first few years of their existence. I was inclined to like them since they're named after Edgar Allen Poe's poem "The Raven." I'm not a huge fan of this poem, although I do like it well enough, but it is the only team in the NFL directly connected to literature. I really do like the team as well. I love to watch Ed Reed play and I'm really excited to watch Joe Flacco consistently improve at quarterback. They're a fun team to cheer for. Plus, they've historically kept a few OU players on their roster (e.g., Kelly Gregg, Mark Clayton) and that adds to the fun.

I'm pretty excited to watch the Broncos this year. I enjoy watching teams in that "building" phase; I like to see the teams develop. In fact, the Broncos are one fo the teams I'm most interested in watching this coming season along with the Lions--I think Stafford is going to be a good QB, maybe even fantasy football good (but not a starter this year)--and Browns.
